Golden Honey

I enjoyed watching the light filtering through this freshly gathered jar of golden honey. I have one bee hive that is storing excess honey. What you see here came from one frame (there are ten frames in one box and there are four boxes on this hive that are full of honey comb) This is a hive that was on the verge of starvation in March. I added pollen patties for a few weeks until they were able to forage for themselves.  They have been “busy” bees ever since!

After I scraped the honey and wax out of the frame, I put it into a sieve and let gravity do its job. For those of you who don’t know, one worker bee will store 1/12th of a teaspoon in her lifetime. This is certainly the combined work of tens of thousands of bees doing what they have been doing for many, many years. When you taste the flowers and the rain and the earth and the sunlight that is encapsulated in the sweet taste, it is easy to be transported to a simpler time and to enjoy our “oneness” with nature with great gratitude.
